Have you ever considered how safe the contents of your vehicle really are? Most modern cars have a variety of security measures in place, but that doesn’t make them immune to being broken into. That makes it all the more important to protect the contents.
Keeping everything out of sight is the first step towards doing this successfully. Many car thieves are opportunistic – if they spot a car with a phone or tablet on the front seat, you can bet they will try and get it if they possibly can. This means you could end up with a nasty surprise when you return to your car.
But even if you do keep everything out of sight, can you do anything to prevent people getting access to your valuables in other ways?
This is the natural solution. After all, you may have a safe in your home where you store valuables. So why not have one in your car as well?
If you have never seen or heard of vehicle safes before, you might be surprised to learn there are several out there on the market. Some are very small and lock around something static in the car by way of a secure loop of steel – a bit like a bike lock. However, there are better options that offer even more security.
This is shown by looking at the Burton Cashguard range of safes we stock. The Burton Mini Cashguard vehicle safe is an excellent example of how practical and solid a vehicle safe can be.
It comes in two parts – the base and the main safe portion itself. You also get two keys with it. One of these locks the safe into place, and the other gains access to the safe itself. The idea is the base unit is secured permanently in place inside the car by way of fixing bolts. These cannot easily be removed by themselves, especially if the safe is locked into position on the base at the time.
All you need to do is fix the base into position and then use the key to make sure the safe is locked into place on the base. When this is achieved, the keyhole that is used to open the safe is hidden behind the lower portion of the base. This renders the safe very difficult, if not impossible, to get into. If someone did want to get into it or take the safe away, they’d have to use tools and make a lot of noise. And we assume most thieves wouldn’t want to do that.
The safe also has a convenient slot at the top that can be used to deposit cash into the safe. Cheques can also be put through quite easily. If you have other small items you want to put in there, this should be possible too, providing they will fit through the slot.
These safes are particularly good for businesses to use. If you own a business and your drivers regularly take cash payments, it does open up an opportunity for someone to try and steal that cash. However, with a safe in place, the driver only needs to drop the money through the slot into the secure portion of the safe. They don’t even need to have any access to it. You can keep the keys and open the safe when it suits you to do so – for example, at the end of the day. The safe also provides you with a carry handle, so you can easily take it out and carry it indoors whenever the need arises.
It’s not just businesses that might require a vehicle safe though. If you are travelling and you need to carry some cash with you, you may not want it all on display in your wallet every time you go to pay for something. To this end, a practical safe of this nature could prove to be the ideal solution.
Furthermore, if you stay in a hotel and you need to keep a few valuables in your car overnight, you can always open the safe, put them inside and then lock it. You then secure it into the base unit, safe in the knowledge very few people would ever want to go to the hassle of getting inside.
Our range of vehicle safes all have the Burton name on them. This brand is well-known and respected in the field, which means you don’t have to worry about the degree of security a safe like this provides. Once it is secured in place in your vehicle by using the fixing bolts and keys, it will protect your cash and valuables to a very high degree.
